So recently I just started playing Geometry Wars 2 again, and I really don’t know where all this once hidden fun came from. It all started from a session of Sequence. I suddenly realized that I could actually get good at this game. It’s that sudden realization that makes the game very, very appealing to me, simply because I never truly understood how to get better. The concept of just playing the game more never really hit me until that game of Sequence, where I got a single block further than the one I had before. That was all it took to initiate the endless desire to destroy my previous high score over and over again.
Here’s why this game rocks:
- Easy control scheme.
- Amazing graphics.
- One of the coolest damn soundtracks ever.
- Endless replayability through pickup and play gameplay.
I was never one of those guys who spent hours in the arcades as a kid trying to beat people that had set high scores prior to myself. It wasn’t until this game that I began to truly feel that strong craving to be better than everyone else on my friends list. What’s more, the game offers the simplest control scheme and most gorgeous graphics I have seen in an arcade game. I love Castle Crashers, but I think this game has to take over as the best XBLA game ever.
Well, at least until something better comes along. Geo Wars 3, Bizarre?
UPDATE: I can’t believe I forgot this. Love the Geo Wars 2 soundtrack? Check out this official mix from Audioantics: http://media.libsyn.com/media/godfree/46860_choices.mp3
